Abit of interesting news is that whilst the Junior Championships remains a Closed event to Juniors who have already qualified in the year.
The Adult National Championships has now been made an open event. This will give fighters who didnt compete earlier in the year the opportunity to fight in the Championships. Lets hope that more teams will take this opportunity to enter and make the event more exciting for Team Swad and Derby!!

Well, its been another really busy month. The team has been to see Master Ross Iannoccaro as he taught a Master Class in Self Defence without Mats, Kits and Pads! What an EYE OPENING Experience, it brought all the Jujutsu students down to earth with a bang! a real reality check. Even the most simple self defence techniques became dangerous when all safety equipment was removed. The team came away from the class with a new respect for this fantastic art.
Sensei Andy was drafted in by local Boxer and former light weight Sumo Champion, Sam Godfrey to work his corner and help him prepare for his match. Andy focused on tighting up Sams defence through Catch, Parry and slipping drills and using these defences to counter his opposition. We are very happy to say that with Andy's help and preparation Sam went on to win, dominating his opponent and knocking him out in the 3rd round!!
Above Sam Godfrey throwing a right jab at his opponent.
Great Start to April with 4 members of Team Swad taking 1st place at the West Midlands Trials in Wolverhampton.
It was a great day out for all, with lots of interesting styles of Jujutsu entering the event.
Sunday 5th April Andy,Tim and James went down to Worcestor to attend a Master Class with Tassi Ross Iannoccaro, the class focused on the Atemi / Striking involved around Jujutsu. It was a great opportunity to experiment with different approaches in the use of strikes and how to position yourself correctly in a Multiple Attack situation, It was a great class and team Swad recommends anyone interested in Self Defence should book on to the next masterclass coming up soon!
With the Southern Regionals at the end of the month we hope more members of Team Swad will get involved and enter the next event.
19/04/09 Sorry Guys! The Southern Regional Open Trials has been Cancelled, Unfortunately there has been very few entrants forcing the event to be post poned I no that Team Swad members will be hugely dissapointed lets hope that Worcestor will be opened up to those clubs keen to gain more Sport Jujutsu experience!
Sensei Andy
Team Swad has been very busy this month, as well as preparing themselves for the West Midlands National Sport Jujutsu trials on 29th March at Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton. Team Swad has also been busy running an 8 week After School Programme at the Pingle School in Swadlincote, the programme which is due to finish on the 25th March has been very enjoyable. The pupils from Pingle have been learning various elements of Self Defence and will finish the programme with a grading to there 1st Jujutsu Belt.
Team Swad has been invited to participate in the Southern Regional trials at Dartford Judo Club on 26th April, although its a long way from Swadlincote Sensei Andy thinks it will be great experience for the team.
Team Swad has been out and about promoting Jujutsu and Sport Jujutsu within the local community. The team has started an after school club for the students of 'The Pingle School' on Wednesdays which is completely free and offers young people between the ages of 12-16 the chance to participate.
The team has also been involved in a Get Healthly day held at the local leisure centre, the day was a chance for lots of different groups to display stalls explaining what, where and when there activitys took place. The team really enjoyed the day and met lots of interesting people.
As Team Swad prepares for the West Midlands Sport Jujutsu Trials at Wolverhampton, News has come through that the 4th World Martial Arts Games and Martial Arts & Sport Exhibition will be held at Whitlam Leisure Centre, Sydney, Australia. Team Swad has been accomplished so much that Sensei Andy felt that it would be great to end the year with a final get together. So Team Swad attended a local show called the WinterWonderland which was a combination of christmas carols and festive storys aimed at entertaining people of all ages. It was a great night and a nice way to finish the year!! Roll on 2009 Happy New Year to you all!!
16th November 2008.
Hello everyone well as expected the National Kumite Championship was a very exciting event with Team Swad's very own Scarlett Dixon performed out of her skin to win Gold in the under 60 Junior catagory and then after much debate enter the Ladies under 60 and well she only went and won Gold again. Sensei Andy found himself 8 foot in the air with excitement as Scarlett tapped out the more experienced lady from Bromsgrove with a perfect Juji-Gatame (cross over armlock).
After a very dfficult year with various injuries, it was great to see Scarlett get the opportunity to show everyone how good at Sport Jujutsu she really can be. The rest of Team Swad is now biting at the bit to get stuck into next years qualification events. Scarletts really inspired the team, Well Done!
Hi Guys, well on the 18th and 19th October 2008 members from Team Swadlincote got the opportunity to train with Legendary Sword Master Soke Fumon Tanaka and Soke's daughter Shihan Midora Tanaka, the two Kobudo Masters were resently featured on the popular 'Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves' program . The two days training involved learning to use the Bo Staff, HandBo and wooden Bokken.

Pictured Above Team Swad Celebrating their successful competition
On the 13th September 2008 Team Swad made the journey over to Tamworth to compete in their 1st Novice Kumite Sport Jujutsu inter club tournament. Teams Tamworth, Streetly and Swadlincote showed great skills and sportsmanship as they fought all morning.
Swad picked up 4 Golds, 3 Silvers and a Bronze Fantastic !!! This was a brilliant result as Team Swad has only been established 10 months, the other teams have been established far longer, but hard work, grit and determination saw the team walk away with a huge amount of medals.
The event was a huge success with all athletes been given the opportunity to fight everyone within their weight group, the competition was designed to give novices and 1st timers the opportunity to gain some invaluable fighting experience in a safe and evenly matched enviroment !!

Well, Mark goddard came and what a fantastic Seminar, all the guys who attended were given a huge insight into Submission wrestling, MMA and what it really takes to fight in this new era of martial arts. It was a great morning with Mark showing the students takedowns, ground holds and submissions. He carefully explained how each set of techniques could be linked to the next explaining about the transition from a standing fight into a ground fight. Absolutely brilliant great value for money!!
